Literary Club



Under the patronage of the Department of English and the Department of Library Science, the School Literary Club was formed with the aim of promoting the appreciation of literature, for the fostering love for books, for developing the literary talent of the students through the different literary activities and for enhancing the critical thinking, reading, writing and communication skills of the students. The activities undertaken by the Literary Club include book reviews , visit to book fairs, debates, recitations, story writing, essay writing , poetry writing , handwriting competitions, Spell Bee competition, declamation and theme based programmes and skits. The member students are encouraged to read as many quality books as they can within the school year. The Best Readers are selected on the basis of the number of books read, the summaries written and a personal interview with the English Faculty and School Principal.

Poetry writing, Essay writing and Handwriting Competitions were conducted during the First Term for the students from Grade 6 to 12. Essay writing and Handwriting competitions were conducted for the Grade 3 to 5 students.Under the leadership of the principal, the teacher of the Department of English organized a two day literary programme on the 22nd and 23rd of October 2013 for the students of Grade 6 to 12. Students were introduced to the life and works of a few well-known English Romantic poets like William Wordsworth, Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Keats, Lord Byron and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The sonnets of William Shakespeare were also introduced to the students. Recitation of famous lines or parts from the works of these Romantic poets and from Malayalam poetry added flavor to this programme.

Visits to the Sharjah Book Fair, Special programme on the occasion of the Children’s day, literary competitions and skits will be organized by the club in the coming months. Students are also encouraged to contribute articles, stories, poems etc. for the division wise magazine brought out every year by the beginning of January.
