Faculties & Departments
The prime objective of this department is to make children feel the importance of science in daily life which in turn will trigger in them curiosity to learn more. Science is life itself and a social transformation is possible only through science and scientific thoughts, as it would remove the darkness from the minds of the people. Let learning of science produce intellectually competent, morally upright and spiritually enlightened children who will be always ready in the service of mankind.
Science is the sum total of man’s never ending quest for knowledge regarding this universe and everything in it. Science is about life in this universe; it’s life itself. The very objective of the department is to inculcate this idea in the minds of the pupils to help them experience the thrill of learning science and applying the same in their lives. Science advances every moment addressing the different needs of mankind and at the same time exploring the unveiled truths about this universe.
Currently there are 22 teachers handling three science streams, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, a laboratory supervisor and a lab attendant as the department staff. Infrastructural facilities have been upgraded as the plus 2 programs began in 2008. Now the department is equipped with apt laboratory facilities – separate Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories - to accommodate 125 students in the science stream of the Plus 2 programme. Students from Grade 6 to 10 are offered lab sessions involving experimental demonstrations. The Plus 2 students have regular practical sessions every week. Students of Grades 6 to 8 are given opportunities for lab work once in a month; students of grade 9 and 10 have regular experimental demonstrations in the labs as per syllabus.
Science Education in different grades
Science for Grades 1 and 2 are offered as Environmental Studies and as General Science for grades 3 to 5 (4 periods per week). From Grades 6 to 10, Physics, Chemistry and Biology streams are handled separately (3 periods for every stream per week). For grades XI and XII there are six periods (theory) per week for each stream in addition to 4 sessions of laboratory work.
