Social Science is an integrated study, which draws its content mainly from various disciplines such as geography, history, political science, economics, sociology etc. Together they provide a comprehensive view of society-over space and time, in relation to each other. Each subject has distinct methods of enquiry that help the learners understand society from different angles and from a holistic view.
By keeping these objectives in mind the Social Science teachers are constantly striving to increase the possibility of making the students more aware and to be more responsible as human beings. It motivates the students to adhere to ethical and moral values in life. It helps the students to grow up into informed citizens as knowledge of the socio-political and economic conditions of their country and the world and the knowledge of one’s rights and duties as an individual in society, helps students become responsible citizens. It provides opportunities for students to conduct inquiry, develop and display data, synthesise findings and make judgments. It helps them to work individually and collaboratively using rich and varied sources to reach understandings, make decisions, discuss issues and solve problems. It gives students opportunities to ask and answer questions, discuss or debate implications and participate in compelling projects that call for critical thinking and to analyse the content in a variety of learning modes.
There are different types of tools to be used to assess the students under the new CCE system. The whole academic year is divided into 2 terms. There are four formative assessments and two summative assessments together. The four formative assessments are assessed on the basis of different classroom activities such as power point presentations, seminars, group discussions, chart making, poster making, collage making, role-play, quiz etc. with specific rubrics for different grades. The two Summative Assessments are assessed through written examination conducted by the Board
